Shanice Farrugia

Shanice Farrugia (b.2000) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Malta. She holds a B. A Honours in Fine Art (1st Class) from MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts, which she completed in 2021. Farrugia’s artistic focus is on drawing, painting, and mixed media. Her creative process revolves around the theme of perception, reality, and identity, where she attempts to capture the essence of the subject through keen observation.

As an adolescent, Farrugia started to take art seriously and started to rapidly achieve a realistic approach. As a result, her work tends to remain truthful to her subjects while revealing deeper insights through her unique perception. With a focus on the human form, Farrugia’s work showcases her ability to capture its unique nuances and convey its distinctive character through her art.

Through introspection and personal reflection, Farrugia’s artworks reflect her inner world, and the figures she portrays become a mirror of her own experiences. This imbues her work with a relatable quality that allows viewers to connect with her art on a personal level.

Farrugia has participated in several local collective exhibitions, and she has illustrated children’s books from the trilogy Il-Misteru tal-Għoġol tad-Deheb. In 2019, she underwent an internship as an artist assistant to Antonella Bussanich in Florence, Italy. She is currently working at the MPM Arts Hub in Valletta as a Museum Assistant and PR Executive. Farrugia is constantly seeking new ways to express herself and expand her artistic vision.
